🌿 NAM TU LIEM SECONDARY SCHOOL: DEVELOPING STUDENTS’ CRITICAL THINKING THROUGH A SCIENCE SPECIALIZED LESSON
🔬 On the afternoon of October 7, 2026, Class AE8.1 of Nam Tu Liem Secondary School participated in a specialized science lesson in the Living Organisms strand, conducted by Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu Thuy.
💡 The specialized topic, “Developing Students’ Critical Thinking through the Six Thinking Hats Technique,” was integrated into the lesson Learning about Some Digestive System Diseases (Natural Sciences 8).
🌟 More than learning knowledge – students learned how to think!
A highlight of the lesson was that students did not simply receive knowledge but actively explored, analyzed information, discussed, debated, and proposed solutions to protect their health.
🦷 While learning about tooth decay, students worked in pairs, explored information through videos, completed learning worksheets, and used digital tools to design posters promoting dental health and disease prevention. Through this activity, scientific knowledge was transformed into visual, practical, and meaningful products.
🧠 Particularly engaging was the lesson on gastric and duodenal ulcers. The class was divided into six groups, corresponding to the Six Thinking Hats. Each “hat” represented a different perspective, encouraging students to approach the same scientific issue from multiple angles.
Through this learning experience, students not only strengthened their scientific knowledge but also developed essential competencies, including communication, collaboration, problem-solving, creativity, and especially critical thinking.
🌱 What makes the lesson particularly meaningful is the connection between scientific knowledge and students’ everyday lives. After each activity, students were encouraged to reflect on practical actions such as maintaining a healthy diet, practicing proper oral hygiene, getting enough sleep, avoiding harmful habits, and taking proactive care of their digestive health.
✨ This lesson reflects the educational innovation that Nam Tu Liem Secondary School is committed to pursuing: putting students at the center of learning, developing their competencies and qualities, and connecting classroom knowledge with real-life situations.
👏 We sincerely commend Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu Thuy for her thoughtful preparation, innovative approach, and creativity, as well as the professional collaboration of the School Leadership and the Natural Sciences Department in creating a meaningful, engaging, and educationally valuable learning experience for students.
