🌟 NAM TU LIEM JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL: DEVELOPING SPEED-READING AND MEMORY SKILLS TO FOSTER STUDENTS’ INDEPENDENT LEARNING
On the afternoon of October 13th, Nam Tu Liem Junior High School organised an experiential learning programme for students featuring two sessions: “Speed-Reading Skills” and “Super Reading and Memory Skills – Applying Memory Techniques to English Vocabulary Learning.” The sessions were led by Mr. Truong Van Trung, Head of the Reading Culture Department at the Sports and Tourism Publishing House.
During the session on speed-reading skills, students were introduced to techniques for activating the brain, improving eye flexibility, strengthening concentration, and gradually moving away from the habit of reading word by word. In particular, they explored the MAXSPEED formula and practised combining rapid reading with information retention. Following the hands-on activities, some students reported reading up to three times faster, generating excitement and surprise among the participants.
In the session on reading and memory skills for English vocabulary learning, students discovered creative memorisation techniques using visualisation, imagination, association, and keyword encoding. By linking vocabulary items into vivid stories and combining these techniques with regular revision and memory retrieval practice, students learned how to retain knowledge more actively, naturally, and effectively over time.
Through this programme, Nam Tu Liem Junior High School continues to equip students with modern learning skills, inspire a love of reading, nurture independent learning, and encourage initiative and creativity on their journey towards knowledge.
